Do or Do Not.

I decided a little belatedly that my one resolution this year to celebrate The Incrementing Of A Number Arbitrarily Designated 500 Years Ago To Represent a New Calendar Year would be simple: to write more. To write daily, as a matter of fact. To write 1000 words a day of something, as a matterer of facter. So far, not quite three days into the year, so good.

“But–but, Allen!” you say. “You haven’t posted anything here to Do or Do Not since last Friday! And we know that you never write anything not intended for public consumption!” Well, OK, on that last part you’re wrong. Usually, anyway…it actually has been awhile since I wrote something that didn’t get a tag pinned to its ear and released into the wild.

But on the first part–ah, see I have been posting stuff. Posting like a madman, actually. It just hasn’t gone up here.

Allow me to introduce you fine folks to the rebirth, kinda, of Sportsgeekz. Sportsgeekz (which, the savvier among you might have sussed out from the name, is a place for me to geek about sports) has been around for a couple of years but hasn’t been consistently updated since…well, since ever, honestly. It’s been through several formats and incarnations but nothing really has stuck for me. (I’ve also had several co-conspirators help me with the content off and on, but none of them really seemed to be able to stick with it, either…so I blame everything on them.)

I realized recently, though, just how much I had to say about the world of sports. (Terry can verify this fact–instead of writing about it, I’d usually just come home and fill her ear with everything sports-related that I found interesting. Mostly stuff she doesn’t find interesting, but bless her, she listens anyway.) The reason I hadn’t been writing anything about those sporty thoughts kicking around my head? Because the Do or Do Not has been my primary writing outlet for almost a year, and this just didn’t feel like the appropriate place for it. I have this impression–which has absolutely no empirical evidence to support it–that most of my readers here (all ten of you) don’t really give much of a rat’s behind about sports. (Yes, yes, Tim, I see you, you can put your hand down now.) So that kind of content just never felt like it really fit here.

But if any of you are interested, please head on over there–I’ve put up a little over four thousand words of content in the last five days. And I think most of those words are even pretty good ones!

So there ya go…so far, resolution managed. And don’t you worry your pretty little heads, I do indeed plan to try to update this site, too–also daily, if possible. Have I bitten off a little too much here? Are my word-count eyes bigger than my spare-time stomach? Yeah, could be…but isn’t that the entire point of these resolutions?

  3. The thing is–I know nothing about soccer. I know that no one except the goalie can use their hands and that’s about it. But if I knew someone who was passionate and knowledgable about soccer and was able to write with a snarky attitude, then maybe we could get some soccer content on there. It’s a shame, though, that I don’t know anyone like that…

  5. is that an offer?

See, I knew you were a smart guy. ;)

Don’t stress it–your Master’s these is (duh) way more important. But if you have any quick, preferably somewhat snarky, thoughts to throw together ’round the World Cup, I’ll take ‘em!
